Nice item but three of them arrived damaged due to shipper error July 22, 2007 Barry Graham (Washington, DC Metro) 28 out of 38 found this review helpful
This really looks like a nice water cooler. I would recommend it, but I would caution you before buying it from this shipper. The box clearly states that it should not be inverted, but the way it was packed in an outer cardboard box, this warning is hidden and it arrived upside down.
The first and third also arrived with sticky gue coming out of the box, so we returned them. The second arrived without the sticky mess, but when we put the water in, it leaked out of the bottom.
We finally asked for a refund, which they gave without a problem (although unlike Amazon they won't ship a replacement until they receive the original back).
When I ordered an earlier model from Staples several years ago, I never had any of these issues, unfortunately they did not seem to sell this model.
Great water cooler December 18, 2009 Joanne Waldron 3 out of 18 found this review helpful
We had an old water cooler that provided hot and cold water and was from a school, it lasted over 25 years. This cooler was very easy to set up and we are hoping that is can last just as long.
Very good for the $$$ April 9, 2010 Ben A. Nusser (Seattle) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
While I have only been using the dispenser for about a month now, I feel confident I chose the right one! The reservoir is large and even when your wattle bottle gets really low, there is still another full glass of water left in the reservoir. The hot/cold switches feel strong and durable and the whole unit feels solid. I'd recommend this one
Avanti Hot & Cold Water Dispenser July 26, 2010 Jenn We bought this for our office. GREAT BUY FOR THE MONEY. I searched multiple stores and compared many water coolers until I found this one. It has switches on the back that you can turn the water off over the weekend if you want (we don't always but we have). The hot water it extremely hot. The cold water while it is not extremely cold, it doesn't require you to put ice in your cup, which works for us. We are very pleased with this. You do have to follow the rules when setting it up though on cleaning it, which is very very simple. There was no funky taste to the water after we got it up and running. I would recommend this for home and office.
This left a bad taste - in more ways than one! June 9, 2010 Krisitn M. Lafond 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I purchased this water dispenser for my office after the old one quit working. Having read quite a few reviews, I felt comfortable that I was getting a good product.
Once set up and filled with water, we discovered that the water it dispensed had a horrible chemical taste and smell. I immediately called Avanti, who told me they do not warranty the taste of the water dispensed, only the unit itself, and was given a lengthy process to try to flush the unit out and get rid of the bad taste. It involved dumping in bleach and much rinsing - and took quite a while. At the end, the water still tasted just as bad. Since Avanti customer service had these rinsing directions at hand to give when I called, I must assume they are aware of the problem with the dispensers and probably field these type of complaints frequently.
Since we were unable to return the unit, I continued flushing water through it hoping to lessen the bad taste. Finally I poured in white vinegar and some water and let it sit all day, and then drained it out and rinsed several times. Success - water finally tastes good to drink. The unit seems to be working properly now, but I am disappointed that a product purchased brand new should have required that much work in order to use it for its intended purpose.
