Product Description You don't need to spend a ton of money on a fancy water filtration system, and you certainly don't need to buy a new fridge just to get clean, healthy filtered water. Unlike some systems, you won't even need to buy a shut-off valve for filter changes... It's built into the GXRTQ.

GE SmartWater GXRTQ Inline Filter is a smart buy! October 18, 2008 Cecily Burke (Newport Beach, CA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The GE GXRTQ water filterGE SmartWater Inline Filter Kit (GXRTQ) is easy to install and to change.
It clips into the water line under the sink, and it only needs to be changed once a year. Unlike many other filters, which are designed only for refrigerators, this one can be used also for filtered water at the sink, from a line under the sink, eliminating those un-ecological bottles. No need to get a new fridge with a water feature.
Super Easy August 15, 2008 Jukelover (Columbia, SC USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This filter was much easier to install than the other types I tried. Water tastes great too.
It do what it do December 7, 2008 S. Caldwell 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
It's an inline water filter.
Be sure to make flat and not angular cuts on your tubing if that's the installation method you choose. My cut was not exactly square on the line coming from the fridge. When the water was turned on I heard a bit of air escape from the fridge end of the filter where my uneven cut was. By the time I could reach to that area the water pressure blew the connection out and I had black carbon filter water shooting around the kitchen. You have to laugh. Especially when it's my career to maintain complex hardware on a daily basis. Once I got the water turned off and the spill cleaned up I cut the tubing squarely and reinstalled. Been without issue since. It do what it do if I do my part.
Works well May 25, 2010 California Jim (California!) Good quality filter that works well. We installed this at our office to filter our Bunn coffee machine. There was an immediate improvement in the taste of our coffee. Installs easily once you get the first connectors on the water line. After that it just snaps in and out to change with no tools needed.
Great replacement filter - installs in a flash June 12, 2010 W. Burn This is a great product. I had been struggling finding replacements for my old filter since GE has converted to a new style of filters which is not quick-connect. These filters installed within 2 minutes in place of the other filter and work perfectly.
It did seem to take quite a bit of water flow to completely eliminate the charcoal you see in the water. I recommend attaching the filter to the water; turning on the water directing it into a bucket or cooler and then once the black water flow has stopped (few gallons) attach to the fridge. This avoids sending the charcoal filled water into your fridge and ice system.
